To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule, the Voluntary Agency Network of Korea (VANK) has launched the “80th Anniversary of Korea’s Liberation” website in 2025. The site is designed to provide a comprehensive view of VANK’s global campaigns and posters marking this milestone.
The website is organized into three main sections: “Global Campaigns,” “Global Posters,” and “VANK Stories.” The homepage presents an overview of the campaigns under the theme “VANK’s Seven Key Projects for the 80th Anniversary of Korea’s Liberation.”
The “Global Campaigns” section introduces seven major initiatives led by VANK: the “Train to Liberation” campaign, the 21st-Century Foreign Independence Activist Honor campaign, the “Guided by the Spirit of Ahn Chang-ho” campaign for national sovereignty, the “Korea’s Vision for a New International Order on the 80th Anniversary of Liberation” campaign, the “Independence Activists’ Trail” campaign, the AI-driven national brand campaign to promote Korea globally, and the “Final Puzzle of True Independence: Food and Energy Sovereignty” campaign. Each campaign has its own page with detailed information.
The “Global Posters” section displays VANK’s campaign posters in one place. Visitors can easily download them through the “Poster Download” button from VANK’s official website or the global photo-sharing site Flickr. VANK hopes that by sharing these posters with family and friends, the messages of the 80th-anniversary campaigns will reach a wider audience.
The “VANK Stories” section introduces the organization and the background behind the 80th-anniversary campaigns. It also features a YouTube video from the radio campaign <Value Up Korea>, in which VANK Director Park Ki-tae explains the significance of Korea’s 80 years of liberation and the purpose of the campaigns in depth.
Park Ki-tae stated, “With this website, we will continue to carry out campaigns that convey the meaning and value of Korea’s liberation to the world. This site marks the first step in inheriting the spirit of liberation and elevating Korea’s historical stature.” He added, “Through this process, we will ensure that the spirit of Korea’s liberation is continuously preserved.”
Youth researcher Kwon So-young, who participated in the content planning of the project, said, “The 80th anniversary of liberation is not just a commemorative day, but an important opportunity to reflect on Korea’s journey and look toward the future. Through VANK’s campaigns, we aim to share the spirit of liberation globally. This website is the first step in spreading the values of that spirit to diverse audiences.”
Youth researcher Seong Hye-seung, who led the website creation, explained, “We designed the 80th-anniversary website to bring together all of VANK’s past campaigns in one place, making them more accessible to the public. We hope the meaning and messages of each campaign reach a wide audience and contribute to sharing the spirit and values of Korea’s liberation globally.”
Youth researcher Kim Ji-hye added, “This campaign marking the 80th anniversary is not just about looking back at the past. It plays an important role in laying the foundation for Korea to take a leading role on the global stage. We also hope that VANK’s campaign posters will be easily downloaded and shared, helping the messages spread widely.”
Youth researcher Koo Seung-hyun, who participated in content planning, said, “Through the 80th-anniversary project, we hope to share Korea’s history and the spirit of liberation with the world, especially helping younger generations understand it more deeply and strengthening the country’s positive image.”
In 2025, to promote the meaning and spirit of Korea’s liberation globally, VANK plans to continue launching various international campaigns. The organization is also exploring multifaceted strategies to ensure Korea can play a leading role in the global community, with this 80th-anniversary campaign serving as a significant milestone in opening a new chapter of history.
