VANK holds meeting with Rep. Kim Seung-soo on Strengthening Korea’s Global Promotion

On July 3, 2025, Cyber Diplomacy Organization VANK held a meeting with Kim Seung-soo, a member of the People Power Party, under the theme of “Reviewing Korea’s Promotion by Central and Local Governments.”

During the meeting, VANK and Rep. Kim discussed the importance of accurately representing Korea in overseas textbooks, encyclopedias, games, and AI platforms in an era with 200 million Hallyu (Korean Wave) fans worldwide. They also emphasized the significance of English-language websites and publications managed by central and local governments and established a plan to review them through VANK’s national policy communication platform, “Yeollim.”

Rep. Kim said, “At a time when global attention is focused on Korea due to the Hallyu boom, it is only natural to review the content and direction of Korea’s global promotion. With the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit drawing international focus to Gyeongju, local governments must also check their content and work to strengthen global competitiveness.”

VANK head Park Ki-tae added, “Government overseas promotional content plays a crucial role in forming the international community’s first impression of Korea. In today’s Hallyu era, the scope of Korean culture promotion, which has largely focused on popular culture, must expand to include local government policies to lead K-policy Hallyu as well.”

VANK researcher Kwon So-young, in charge of this campaign, said, “Beyond a one-sided government review, if individual citizens’ interest can naturally translate into suggested improvements that are implemented, it will set a strong precedent for true governance.”

Following the meeting, VANK announced that, in collaboration with Rep. Kim, it will collect public feedback on English-language websites and publications from 17 local governments and 19 central government agencies through the “Yeollim” platform. Based on the evaluation results, VANK will provide guidelines including proposed improvements for government English-language content.
