Correction of Hanbok Misrepresentation!

A Foreign Website That Introduced Hanbok as “Korean Kimono” Has Been Corrected!

Although the correct name of Korea’s traditional clothing is Hanbok,
some foreign websites had inaccurately referred to it as a “Korean Kimono.”

This mislabeling has now been corrected, thanks to efforts to ensure that Korea’s cultural heritage is properly represented.

As of December 8, 2011, a Google search for the term “Korean Kimono” yielded approximately 3,860,000 results, showing that a large number of websites were introducing Hanbok—Korea’s traditional attire—under a distorted name.
Moreover, even more results appear when the same term is searched in other languages.

In response, VANK launched a campaign to restore the proper name of Hanbok.
Through both the “21st Century Yi Sun-sin Project” website and VANK’s Android application “Super Diplomatic Delegation K”, members participated in correction activities.

As a result of these efforts, on April 28, a website that had previously labeled Hanbok as “Korean Kimono” corrected it to “Korean Hanbok”!

The recently corrected website, Mediafocus, is an image-based platform that has steadily gained popularity among internet users since 1996.
It is especially widely used by companies involved in design, book publishing, website development, and smartphone application creation.

Therefore, it is expected that this correction will help ensure that Hanbok is properly represented and more accurately introduced across various media platforms in the future.
